Namibia’s financial markets have been ranked sixth most developed out of 26 African countries evaluated in a 2022 study conducted by the Absa Group in association with the London-based Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF).

The Institute of People Management (IPM) has named Standard Bank Namibia CEO, Mercia Geises as the IPM HR CEO/MD of the Year during its recently held two-day conference.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia has lost its bid to nullify a decision made by the Pharmacy Council of Namibia over two years ago to register Dis-Chem Pharmacies as community pharmacies.

City of Windhoek Mayor Sade Gawanas said the capital city is working on balancing its books amid revelations that the municipality is currently utilising a N$200-million overdraft facility to meet its day-to-day operations. 

Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo has appointed Isabella Chirchir as mining Commissioner.

She replaces Erasmus Shivolo who served in two roles as mining Commissioner and Department of Mines Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of Mines and Energy. 

Shivolo has been mining Commissioner since 2008.

Chirchir currently serves as mining Director in the same ministry.

There is no doubt that times are tough. The ongoing Russian-Ukraine conflict, soaring inflation and depressed growth prospects continue to put affordability for housing under pressure, especially in the face of rising interest rates.  

Namibia has recorded a 33% increase in diamond production for the third quarter of 2022 (Q3) having produced 531,000 carats of diamonds from 399,000 the previous year, latest figures shared by global mining giant Anglo American show. 

Namibia was named first runner-up in the leading in progressive policies award category at the 5th Africa Tourism Leadership Forum and Awards in Botswana. 

Earlier this month, Afritin took another significant step towards upgrading the already impressive production at its Uis tin mine in Namibia.

In May this year, His Excellency the President, Dr Hage Geingob, during the opening of the Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) congress made the following remarks: “You young people are racist and tribalist. Youth must unite in their diversity without denying anyone's tribe or language. When we unite in that [Namibian] house you are not supposed to see that Damara, Ovawambo, Herero, Coloured. It must be one Namibian house. In the absence of unity, you may end up betraying your mission. This is your era. Therefore, as young people you must discover your mission in this new era.”
