The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the immediate suspension of imports and in-transit movement of live poultry, birds and poultry products from Germany and the Netherlands following the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.

The rainy season is around the corner and most farmers anticipate good rainfall this season. Sufficient rainfall has several benefits that are crucial for farming activities. Firstly, rainfall promotes the regrowth of rangeland pastures, secondly it provides a source of irrigation for crop fields and thirdly, it replenishes underground water sources.

Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform says more than 5000 herd of cattle have been infected by a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in the Zambezi region, with 150 cattle reported to have died due to FMD related causes.
