Namibia is experiencing a surge in potato prices due to a local supply shortage, the Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) says.

Namibia’s fishing sector is forecasted to grow by only 1.3% in 2023, due to an unlikely increase in the total allowable catch (TAC), owing to a slow growth in the country’s stocks, research firm Simonis Storm said in its Agri-monthly report.

Namibia has potential to generate N$76 billion in 25 years if the country rehabilitates and restores its encroached bush land, Environment, Forestry and Tourism Minister Pohamba Shifeta has said.

Namibia is expected to experience acute horticultural products shortages for the remainder of this year following the import restriction of several products.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform says the implementation of the much-touted irrigation project at Neckartal Dam will be done through Public Private Partnerships, with 3800 hectares (ha)out of the 5000ha earmarked for irrigation development having already been acquired.
