Paratus starts construction of N$123m data centre

Paratus Namibia Holdings says it has started with the construction of a data centre, with the project slated for completion in the third quarter of 2022 and expected to cost N$123 million.

The data centre , according to the company’s previous announcement, will be 1 300 square metres in size and will host 150 cabinets, with Google as anchor tenant occupying 50 cabinets.

According to its financial results for the year ended 30 June 2021, the telecommunications service provider incurred capital expenditure of N$178 million funded from cash reserves and operational cashflows, with N$18 million allocated towards the data centre project.

In the period under review, the listed company installed 342 km of fibre data ducts, with Windhoek suburbs such as Eros,Klein Windhoek , Ludwigsdorf, Luxury Hill, Olympia, Kleine Kuppe, Prosperita now having access to its fibre.

For its SkyFi project, a total of 24 new sectors were added to the network to accommodate growth, with Ondangwa and Katima Mulilo included.

Performance for the period

  • Paratus realized recurring revenue of N$305 million compared to N$283 million prior year.
  • Non-recurring revenue, which represents customer premises Local Area Network installations and equipment sales amounted to N$30.8 million compared to N$51.7 million prior year. The decline was attributed to the slowdown in the construction of new commercial buildings.
  • Net profit before taxation came in at N$40.8 million compared to N$33.4 million prior year, with EBITDA amounting to N$94.4 million.
  • A dividend amounting to N$9.7 million was declared for the period.
