ACC nabs trio on corruption charges

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested three individuals for allegedly attempting to bribe a Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) official.

The three, 40 years old Samora Haufiku, an employee of the Ministry of Finance (Laborer), 41 years old Festus Alexander, and 36 years old Taimi Iiyambo business persons were arrested on Wednesday and appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate Court on Thursday for contravening the Anti-Corruption Act, which is bribery of public officers and attempts and conspiracies.

It is alleged that Iiyambo owes an estimated amount of N$272 240 on VAT and needed someone to clear the outstanding balance.

The ACC received a tip-off from the whistle-blower, upon which a sting operation together with NamRA was organized that led to the trio’s arrest.
