Deep-South appoints Knight Piésold for Haib ESIA

October 17, 2023

Deep-South Resources has appointed South Africa consultancy Knight Piésold Consulting to conduct an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the Haib Copper project.

The move comes after the Canadian company hired Namibian drilling contractor, Ferrodrill Namibia, to proceed with the drilling program for the Haib Copper project.

The ESIA will be conducted in conjunction with a feasibility study for the project, which is necessary for the eventual application for a mining license.

The ESIA will encompass environmental, social, and hydrogeological feasibility studies, as well as a public participation program, which are all required to assess the overall viability of the proposed project and to obtain the necessary authorizations.

"The necessary authorizations include an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism (MEFT), a Mining License from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), and a Water Abstraction Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform (MAWLR)," the company stated.

Knight Piésold operates in more than 15 countries around the world and has had an office in Namibia since 2008. The company provides engineering and environmental consulting services to the mining, power, environment, water resources, and infrastructure industries.

Deep-South is a Canadian-listed company that holds the Haib Copper Project in Namibia and has an interest in three exploration licenses in Zambia's Copperbelt.
