Navigating Change with PROSCI: My Journey through the Certification Program

The PROSCI Certification Program is the gold standard in the world of change management. Having the opportunity to attend this program in Windhoek at The Weinberg Hotel was a remarkable experience.

As a participant in this inaugural program in Namibia, I'd like to share my journey. I gained invaluable insights from this transformational event and feedback from some esteemed colleagues who joined me on this enlightening voyage.

A Transformational Experience

With its rich history and scenic views, Windhoek's Weinberg Hotel provided the perfect backdrop for a gathering of change management enthusiasts. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as we embarked on a journey that promised to deepen our understanding of change and equip us with the tools to navigate it successfully.

As the program unfolded, it became clear that PROSCI's commitment to excellence, grounded in over two decades of research, was the driving force behind its continued success. The sessions were led by Tom and Teresa Marsicano, seasoned instructors who were experts in their field and passionate about sharing their knowledge.

Insights and Impact

One of the standout features of the PROSCI Certification Program is its holistic approach to change management. The program doesn't just focus on the methodologies; it delves into the nature of change, emphasising the importance of addressing the human side of change. As a participant, I was fortunate to delve into the depths of the PROSCI methodology. This transformative experience revealed several key aspects that underpin PROSCI's effectiveness in guiding organisations through change:

  1. Practical applicability: Participants work on their company's projects. The program helps participants to deliver success and ROI for their investment in building change management competency. While learning and applying new concepts and tools, they use real-life data and experience to structure a change management strategy and plans for critical role-players in their company.
  2. Guided by a Structured Approach: PROSCI offers a well-structured, step-by-step process for change management. It equips participants with a versatile toolkit that includes various templates, assessments, and resources. These tools can be tailored to align seamlessly with an organisation's unique needs and objectives.
  3. Placing People at the Core: PROSCI's emphasis on the human aspect of change management is a fundamental principle. It stresses the importance of understanding the psychology of change and how individuals respond to it. This insight enables organisations to proactively prepare for and support employees during transitional phases.
  4. ADKAR® Model: An Anchor in Change Management: The ADKAR® model, a cornerstone of PROSCI, dissects change management into five pivotal elements: Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement. By addressing these elements, organisations gain a structured framework to drive successful change initiatives systematically.
  5. Backed by Research and Best Practices: PROSCI's methodology is not just a collection of ideas but deeply rooted in extensive research and best practices. This evidence-based approach ensures that organisations make well-informed decisions grounded in data and industry expertise.
  6. Building Networks: PROSCI encourages cultivating a network of organisational change champions and sponsors. These advocates are vital in promoting and sustaining change, making it more accessible for employees to adapt. Also, participants are encouraged to continue networking after the program to help each other succeed in their new skills
  7. Quantifiable Outcomes: PROSCI promotes the utilisation of metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of change management initiatives. This data-driven approach empowers organisations to continually refine and enhance their change strategies, informed by tangible results.
  8. Fostering Continuous Improvement: Change is a perpetual journey. PROSCI equips organisations with the knowledge and tools to navigate individual changes and instil a culture of perpetual improvement and adaptability within their DNA.

Unlocking The Power of Change

As a participant, these facets of the PROSCI methodology left a lasting impression. They equipped me with a profound understanding of the intricacies of change management and provided me with a versatile set of tools to champion changes effectively in my organisation. PROSCI's approach is structured, human-centric, research-backed, and dedicated to producing measurable results while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. It's a powerful combination that is a beacon for organisations seeking to navigate the ever-evolving change landscape.

Participants reaped the benefits from collaborating with representatives of global multinationals, diverse companies, and Namibian SOEs, and their feedback reflects the diverse range of benefits gained:

Adri, a Group Manager in Organisational Development and Talent, said: "The Change Management Certification Program was very valuable to me as I could immediately start using the tools when I returned to work. I wish I had done the training three years ago already. I would highly recommend it to my colleagues."

A group manager from an SOE summarised their experience: “Attending the PROSCI Certification Program was an unforgettable journey. It was a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and organisations committed to driving change successfully. The impact of this experience will undoubtedly reverberate through our professional lives as we apply the knowledge and insights gained to champion change within our respective organisations."

In conclusion, change is the only constant in today's business world, and with the PROSCI Certification, we are better prepared to embrace and lead it.
