Curro moves ahead with private varsity plans

Curro Namibia, the local unit of Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed Curro Holdings Limited says it’s moving ahead with plans to setup a new private university in the country, with its first enrolment set for 2023.

The company said the university will be partnering the University of Stellenbosch for its agriculture faculty, which will be based at Stampriet, in the Hardap region.

The company has also clinched a deal with Stadio for its education faculty, with NUST and Unam also set to be roped in.

“We initially wanted to build a big university, but we realised it won't be possible any more, that’s why it’s going to be a multi-varsity. We will optimise our school capacity, where learning for students will be in the morning, with university classes resuming in the afternoon,”Curro Namibia Managing Director , Colet Rieckert said.

Curro Namibia operates the Windhoek Gymnasium Private School.

Curro Holdings Limited develops, acquires, and manages independent schools in South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana.
