Reconnaissance Energy Namibia, the Namibian subsidiary of ReconAfrica has donated medical equipment worth N$6.8 million to the Ministry of Health and Social Service.

The handover is part of the second phase of ReconNamibia’s N$15 million support to the Ministry’s COVID-19 relief programme.

“As part of Phase Two of this donation, the Ministry is receiving vital patient monitors, continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) machines, ventilators and oxygen masks. The items donated by ReconNamibia, are not COVID-19 relief specific only but will therefore also be utilized for any other medical need as necessary,” Health minister, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula said.

“This being the second phase of this support from ReconNamibia, it is a demonstration of the benefits of the ongoing collaborative approach to public healthcare between ReconNamibia and the Ministry. The company through these actions has proven that it is a reliable corporate citizen and has the needs of the Namibian people at heart.”

He said “In fact, it is absolutely pleasing to note that the newly established Kavango West Health and Social Welfare Services Directorate had surpassed all regions in terms of vaccination uptake. As a Ministry, we are extremely proud of this achievement and commend ReconNamibia for her contribution to these efforts.”

Reconnaissance Energy Namibia, Country General Manager Robert Mwanachilenga said he said the donation was inline with its Environmental Social Governance (ESG) approach to business.

“Since health is an important pillar of our ESG framework, we cannot thank the ministry enough for this opportunity to collaborate with you and form lasting and impactful partnerships. Having visited Andara and Naankudhu in the two regions – we have firsthand awareness of the conditions of the hospitals and it is truly humbling that we are able to make a difference,” he said.
