TransNamib appoints Kendall Swartz as Executive for Commercial and Marketing

TransNamib has appointed Kendall Swartz as the Executive for Commercial and Marketing.

Swartz, who holds a BBA in Economics from Georgia Southern University, USA, as well as a certificate in Sales and Marketing, previously served as the Commercial Director for Coca-Cola Namibia Bottling Company.

Welcoming Swartz, TransNamib's Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Webster Gonzo, emphasized the crucial role of TransNamib in establishing Namibia as the preferred logistics hub in the region over the next five years.

"The new executive will be responsible for pushing TransNamib's operations and strategic direction, leading an aggressive sales strategy, and fostering a customer-centric approach. He'll oversee the entire commercial aspect of TransNamib, identify and drive key business development projects, and substantially increase TransNamib's revenue and market share. TransNamib and rail play a key role in enabling the economy, and transforming the company into a sustainable organization that adds value to our shareholders is crucial in positioning Namibia as a logistics hub in the region,” Gonzo said.

This appointment comes as TransNamib is banking on an Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) coined in 2018 to turn the company's financial fortunes around and make it a profitable entity.

The strategic plan aims to achieve a financial breakthrough by 2023, with a target of transporting three million metric tonnes of cargo to provide a reliable customer experience.

To fund its turnaround strategy, the company is relying on a credit facility from the Development Bank of Namibia and the Development Bank of South Africa, amounting to N$2.6 billion.
