The Ministry of Health has finally received its consignment of 108 000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which were initially expected in the country last week.

The vaccine is being procured through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT).

The arrival of the J&J vaccine, brings to four approved vaccines currently being used in the country, namely AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sputnik V.

Government is currently awaiting delivery of 100 620 doses of the Pfizer vaccine which is being donated by the United States and 30 000 doses of the Hyatt Vax from the United Arab Emirates.

AVAT was established by the African COVID-19 Vaccine Acquisition Task Team, as part of the African Union’s COVID-19 Vaccine Development and Access Strategy.

Its goal is to vaccinate at least 60 per cent of the African population with safe and efficacious vaccines against COVID-19.
