NSA releases shortlist for census team and constituency supervisors

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has released the list of shortlisted candidates for the positions of census team supervisors, as well as constituency supervisory positions, to conduct the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

The positions consist of 3,540 Census team supervisors, as well as 121 Census Constituency supervisors, including reserves.

"Potential candidates are referred to as such because they will have to undergo training and pass a written test to be confirmed as team and constituency supervisors. Successful potential candidates will commence their training from August 21, 2023, to September 01, 2023, in their respective regions," said Alex Shimuafeni, NSA Statistician-General and CEO.

This comes as the NSA has revealed that it needs to recruit over 13,000 Census field staff, including Enumerators, Enumeration Supervisors, Data Clerks, and IT Field Technicians, to conduct the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

The 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) is scheduled to be conducted from the 18th of September to the 3rd November, this year.

This decision follows Finance Minister Ipumbu Shiimi's allocation of N$706 million to the NSA in his N$84-billion budget for the 2023/24 financial year to conduct the long-overdue survey.

Namibia's Population and Housing Census was originally scheduled for August 2021 but was postponed to August 2022 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Namibia conducts a population and housing census every 10 years to gather essential data on the country's demographic and economic landscape.

The results of the survey are crucial for policy-making, resource allocation, and planning for the country's development.
